Although the per capita consumption of mushrooms in Korea is now growing, consumers buying functional mushrooms that are good for health are decreasing, according to the Korea Farmer's Daily. Therefore, the relevant departments of the Korean mushroom industry have carried out a series of consumer exhibitions and seminars focusing on expanding the healthful and functional mushrooms, and these conferences have also received a lot of media attention.

On June 12, the Korea Mushroom Industry Research Association held the "Future Consumption Seminar of Mushrooms" in the Agricultural Association Distribution Hall in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul. Professor Jiang from the Korea Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries University gave a wonderful speech on the theme of "Expanding Consumers' Mushroom Consumption Plan by Developing the Processing Industry". Professor Jiang conducted an in-depth analysis of the reasons why Korean consumers prefer mushrooms in the past 10 years, and after many academic investigations, he found that people's understanding of the health benefits of mushrooms has gradually weakened. Professor Jiang said that the Journal of Regional Social Nutrition (2002) and the Korean Journal of Food Culture Chemistry (2006) respectively published the reasons why consumers love mushrooms, and the top one is health. In 2008, the research of the Korean Food Circulation Society showed that the reasons why consumers like mushrooms have changed, and they prefer the texture and taste of mushrooms.

At the same time as the "Mushroom Future Consumption Seminar", the "2014 Korea Specialty Mushroom Exhibition" jointly organized by the Korea Mushroom Committee and the Korea Mushroom Producers Federation also kicked off in Seoul. The exhibition brought together a variety of mushrooms, attracting a lot of consumers. In addition to these meetings, the "National College Student Mushroom Cooking Contest" will also be held as scheduled.
